How to start teaching online

Teaching online lets you reach students beyond your own neighbourhood and save travel time. You need less than you might think.

What you need

A laptop or tablet, a headset or earphones with a microphone, a stable internet connection and a plain, well-lit background. A writing tablet or a phone camera pointed at a notebook helps for maths and science.

Keep students engaged

Ask questions every few minutes, have students solve on their own screen or notebook while you watch, and keep explanations short. A student who is talking and writing is a student who is still with you.

Run the class, not the admin

Attendance, homework, reminders and fee dues take time if you track them by hand. On VidyaHouse a class link reaches the family automatically, attendance is kept, and fees are raised each month and paid by UPI.

Start with the students you have

Moving one or two existing students online is the easiest start. Invite their families from VidyaHouse and they join from a link with nothing to install.

Frequently asked questions

Do students need to install an app?

No. VidyaHouse classes open in the browser on a phone or computer.

Can I teach my own existing students on VidyaHouse?

Yes. Add them to your register and invite their families; you run their classes, attendance and fees in one place, free to start.

Is a smartphone enough to teach online?

It works for conversation subjects, but a laptop or tablet with a bigger screen makes writing and sharing much easier.
